Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme TEQIP Phase – II

The Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) of World bank and Government of India, has been conceived in pursuance of the NPE-1986 (revised in 1992). The Programme aims to upscale and support ongoing efforts of GOI to improve quality of Technical Education and enhance existing capacities of the institutions to become dynamic, demand-driven, quality conscious, efficient and forward looking , responsive to rapid economic and technological developments occurring both at national and international levels.

Objective of TEQIP Phase – II
  • Strengthening Institutions to produce high quality engineers for better employability,- Scaling-up postgraduate education and demand-driven Research & Development and Innovation.
  • Establishing Centers of Excellence for focused applicable research.
  • Training of faculty for effective Teaching.
  • Enhancing Institutional and System Management effectiveness.

The National Institute of Engineering, Mysore has been selected under this scheme and awarded with 12.5 crores, to carry out above activities for the next three years ( 2011-2014) . The NIE is one among 18 institutions selected for this prestigious project in Karnataka.

Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme TEQIP Phase – III

The Project, Third phase of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (referred to as TEQIP-III) is fully integrated with the Twelfth Five-year Plan objectives for Technical Education as a key component for improving the quality of Engineering Education in existing institutions with a special consideration for Low Income States and Special Category States and support to strengthen few affiliated technical universities to improve their policy, academic and management practices.

Objectives
The Project will focus on the following objectives:

(a) Improving quality and equity in engineering institutions in focus states viz. 7 Low Income States (LIS1 ), eight states in the North-East of India, three Hill states viz. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands (a union territory (UT))

(b) System-level initiatives to strengthen sector governance and performance which include widening the scope of Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs) to improve their policy, academic and management practices towards affiliated institutions, and

(c) Twinning Arrangements to Build Capacity and Improve Performance of institutions and ATUs participating in focus states.

Scope 

Only the Government and Government aided AICTE approved Engineering institutions/Engineering faculty/Engineering Teaching Department/Constituent Institutions of Universities/Deemed to be Universities and new centrally funded institutions in SCS will be the part of the project. An estimated 200 Government and Government funded Engineering institutions including Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs) will be selected under different sub-components in one or two cycles.

Project Strategy

The project will be implemented in alignment with the 12th Five Year Plan (2012- 17), based on faster, sustainable, and inclusive growth. It emphasizes increasing the supply of highly-skilled workers to drive the economy, as well as helping low income states catch up with their more advanced neighbours. The Project will be implemented through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of the Government of India as a Central Sector Scheme (CSS), wherein 100% funds will be provided as grants to the States, Institutions& ATUs. TEQIP III is fully integrated with the Twelfth Five-Year Plan objectives for Technical Education and MHRD, Govt of India as a key component for:

1. Improving the quality of Engineering Education in existing institution with a special consideration for low Income states and Special category states.

2. Support to strengthen few affiliated technical university to improve their policy, academic and management practices.

3. Twinning Arrangements to build capacity and improve performance of institution and ATUs participating in focus states.

  • An excellent Indoor sports campus provides the infrastructure for an array of sport activities.
  • The Health Centre, with an in-house Doctor provides a means for giving first aid to students in case of any medical requirements arising at the campus.

Student Conduct Rules

DO’S
  1. Wear  ID card failing which entry in to the Institute premises/ classroom/laboratory and library will be denied
  2. Maintain discipline and follow the rules and regulations of the Institute
  3. Be respectful to your Teaches/friends and hostel staff/management.
  4. Read the notice board / website (both at your college and the hostel) regularly.
  5. Be security conscious and take care of your valuables especially Cash, Mobile Phones, Laptop and other valuables.
  6. Carry your valuables along with you whenever you proceed on leave/vacation.
  7. Keep the campus clean and hygienic.
  8. Use decent dressing.
  9. Keep informed about change in the addresses, phone numbers, e-mail ids local contact addresses, phone numbers, and contact persons
DON’TS
  1. Ragging inside / outside the campus.
  2. Possession of Fire arms and daggers etc.
  3. Use of Cigarettes, Alcohols, drugs, etc.

  5. Misusing college & hostel premises/facilities for activities other than studies.
  6. Playing loud music in the room which may disturb studies of colleagues / neighbours.

NIE Students’ Association (NIESA)

Its objective is to organise extra-curricular activities for the benefit of students, beside promotion of corporate life among the students, encouragement of healthy discussions of current problems and development of talents in fine arts. Also, every department has its own, association. Such associations are arranging technical and literary talks, quiz programmes and visits to industries. The student magazine of the college, Mysore Engineer, published annually, is edited by a Board comprising of students. It provides a platform to showcase the hidden creative talents in the students .

NIE Conducts a 3-day state-level cultural fest ‘techNIEks’ every year. The Students of various colleges throughout the state participate in the event. NIE students actively participate and are winning prizes continuously in cultural and literary events organized by VTU and other colleges of the state. Also, they have won many prizes in the cultural events of Mysore Dasara.
Description about the annual cultural event of NIE News paper clippings – Annual Fest : TECHNIEKS-2015 techNIEks-2015 inaugurated at NIE – Mr. Vinayak V Patil, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law & Order, Mysuru City, Mysuru, inaugurated ‘techNIEks-2015’, a national techno-cultural festival at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru.

NIE Teachers’ Association (NIETA)

The NIETA is a registered body that effectively represents the NIE teaching faculty at various levels in the State for the welfare of its members. It is actively cooperating with the college administration in matters like promoting academic excellence and maintaining discipline among students.

Farewell to faculty who retire, change jobs or go abroad, felicitation functions in recognition of the outstanding faculty achievements and positions held are organised under the auspices of NIETA.

This is a forum to represent the non-teaching staff of NIE.  The Association extends financial and other assistance to its members and renders efficient technical services in the laboratories.
