Department of Computer Science and Engineering
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was set up in 1983 with B.E. programme. Ever since the department has grown exponentially on all fronts such as infrastructure, courses and faculty.
The department has Nine computer centres with around 300 computers equipped with the latest hardware, software and peripherals. The state-of-the-art IBM OpenPower lab which delivers unparalleled performance for analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and modern High-Performance Computer (HiPC). The department hosts campus-wide networking facility with 10 servers (including high-end ones), Internet laboratory housing 60 computers with a dedicated leased line connectivity of 1 Gbps (wired and wireless) and a well-stocked library.
Our impactful curriculum and outstanding faculty have enabled students to be placed in foremost companies such as Cisco, HP, Intuit, Microsoft R&D, Walmart, Deloitte, Dell, JP Morgan Chase and several others. This academic year the highest package was INR 46.5 Lakhs/ annum.
As the department is among the first two of its kind in Karnataka to be recognized as a Doctoral-level Research Centre by Visveswaraya Technological University (VTU). Qualified Professors serve as research guides under whom 28 candidates have been awarded Ph.D and 27 Research Scholars are pursuing Ph.D. The Department of CS&E and AI&ML has 9 faculty with Ph.D degrees. The current faculty strength is 34 which includes 5 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 25 Assistant Professors.
To nurture bright minds into entrepreneurship and innovation the department is chosen as an incubation centre by Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services. The department is also the recipient of a World Bank grant under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) and utilizes the funds to enhance department facilities and for faculty development.

Faculty CSE- VTU
RESOURCES AND INFRASTRUCTURE
The department has Nine spacious computer centres with about 300 Computers fitted with the latest hardware and software. The Campus-Wide Networking facility connects all the departments, hostel, office and Golden Jubilee block. Ten servers including higher range servers are running on the LAN. A separate Internet Laboratory housing about 60 computers has a dedicated leased line connectivity of 1 Gbps. The Internet facility is available for use during college hours. The Computer Science division has a Department Library with 1600 books to cater to the department staff and student needs.
Center of Excellence
Dept of CSE established Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab to enable AI research at NIE Mysuru. AI lab consists of a state-of-the-art IBM Power system AC922 with GPUs and Intel i7 based desktops. IBM Power System AC922 delivers unparalleled performance for analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and modern High-Performance Computer (HiPC).
The Power AC922 belongs to the POWER9 family. The world’s fastest current supercomputer Summit is built using IBM AC922 nodes

- NBA Accreditation - Undergraduate course for 3 years effective 21.02.2022
- A proposal submitted by Akshay V Nayak, Karthik B S, Akshay A Ganger, Sudhanva L C, 6th sem CSE students under the “Student Innovation Grant Program” of ARTPARK, IISc, has been accepted for funding of Rs. 1.8 lakhs. The project guide is Dr. Rekhs K S, Associate Professor, NIE, Mysuru.
- Implemented various procurement's under TEQIP-I, II and III for INR 3.5 crore (till date)
- Research Funding - Received a fund of INR 20 lakhs from the Government of Karnataka under VGST for the project 'Energy Efficient Data Gathering Technique using Multiple Mobile Elements in Wireless Sensor Networks'.
- KBITS-NAIN: This is an Incubation facility for students to develop prototypes of their choice in the field of Information Technology and Bio-Technology. There are 10 projects per year with a funding of 3 lakhs from the Government of Karnataka which in turn will help commercialise the prototype. Currently, one team from CSE has been awarded a grant of INR 3 lakhs.
