Since its inception in 1971, the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at NIE has been at the forefront pioneering research and education in its field. The department is a trailblazer in the Internet of Things (IoT), being the first to offer an academic course on the subject strongly supported by a full-fledged laboratory set up with generous contributions from its alumni.

While equipping students with a strong foundation in the basics of Electronics, Computers, Communication Engineering and Instrumentation, the department also incorporates the latest technology developments such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Network Security, Neural Networks, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning in industry-relevant courses. Collaborations with leading industry players to design and deliver the curriculum, strong presence in the research field, a well-informed and published faculty, innovations encompassing integrated laboratories, use of open source tools and industry-driven projects, and internship opportunities are pathways that this NBA-accredited department creates to help you realise the future you dream of.

    The department has been accredited by NBA, New Delhi  (Accreditation Document) (Validity from academic year 2020-'21 to academic year 2022-'23 (30-06-2023)
    • 'Texas Instruments Analog Systems Lab' – Lab Setup, Curriculum, FDP and Workshop for a laboratory-based course using Texas Instruments' ASLKv2010 Starter Kit.
    • MoU with Ericsson for industry training for the seventh semester students of Electronics and Communication.
    • MoU with ATMEL to set up an Embedded System Laboratory to train students in the field of Embedded Systems and help them take up industrial and academic projects as part of their regular academic curriculum.
    • ‘Learn with Nokia’ and ‘Research with Nokia’ programmes to develop prototypes for product or tool ideas, new technology incubation projects.
    • The department has pioneered innovations in pedagogy – from integrated laboratories and stack projects for Undergraduate students, to adopting OpenSource tools and subject related laboratories.

    Likith Kumar M, currently 7th Semester student ECE won Third prize in the Oral presentation on the topic "Low Cost NICU Incubator" (minor project done under the guidance of Dr. Remya Jayachandran, Assistant Professor, ECED ) in the Student Research Symposium 2022 organized by IEEE Nanotechnology Student Chapter, IIT Indore held on 10th -11th August 2022.
