The NIE-Eicher Centre for Automobile Technology (NECAT) was established in 2009 in collaboration with Volvo-Eicher to impart training on automobile technology to students, faculty members of engineering colleges, and industrial and vocational training institutes. NECAT also conducts training programmes for automobile dealers.

Objectives

  • Implement the Eicher Technical Training Programme, a proprietary teaching and education programme, in the field of Automobile Engineering and Technology
  • Familiarise ITI, Diploma and Engineering students as well as mechanics and dealers with the latest automobile technology through scientific demonstration of methods to repair, maintain and overhaul commercial vehicles
  • Provide support for education and research to students, faculty members of engineering colleges, and industry personnel
  • Provide joint certifications and organise workshops/seminars/conventions and other academic programmes

Facilities

NECAT is furnished with the latest equipment to facilitate the successful completion of projects and training undertaken by the centre. Facilities include:
  • Air-conditioned classrooms equipped with audio-visual equipment, wall charts, parts/components, and cut-section models for discussions during training sessions
  • Two commercial trucks to train the students and industry personnel on truck dimensions and diagnostics
  • BS-III and BS-IV engines, differential units, gear boxes, and clutch assembly to train the students on the latest technological developments in the automotive industry
  • Workshop with work benches, practice units, dynamic cut-section models, special tools, commercial tools, measuring instruments, and latest diagnostic equipment.
  • Library with posters, books on automobile engineering, customer service management, and other publications of Eicher

  • Performance evaluation of CNG Engine Blended with Hydrogen
  • Design and development of ABS Attachment for Non-ABS Vehicles
  • Design and development of a Mobile Wash Station
  • Optimisation of Fuel Injection Equipment for Single Cylinder Engine
  • Optimisation of Combustion Characteristics of a Single Cylinder Diesel Engine by Varying the FIE Parameters
  • Design and fabrication of All Terrain Weed Cutter
  • Design and fabrication of Parallel Parking Mechanism for Compact Cars
  • Design and fabrication of Automatic Hill Descent Braking System for Compact cars
  • Design and fabrication of Portable Car Ingress –Egress Aid for the Old and Disabled
  • Design and fabrication of Magneto Rheological Braking System
  • Development of Traffic Violation Registration and Tracking Programme
  • Design and development of Vehicle Load Monitoring and Guiding System for Commercial Trucks to Enhance Vehicle Dynamics
