SPORTS AND GAMES
NIE always encourages sports in big way. In fact, the ideals of NIE founders that sports should be a part of engineering education has been maintained even today. The department caters to almost 23 disciplines of Sports and Physical Education for both Men and Women. It has excellent State-of-the-art Infrastructure for indoor Sports and provides excellent facilities in terms of equipment. This is reflected in NIE being ranked among top ten Institutions in VTU Sports and Cultural activities. It has won Rs.1.00 Lakh Cash Award from VTU three times in fifteen Years 2002-2003, 2008-2009, 2013-2014 and 2018-19. (Eligibility only once a five academic years for top ten Institutions affiliated to VTU) through its excellent performance in Sports activities.

Sports Facilities in NIE
The Institution has one state of art Indoor Sports Complex which can accommodate 6 Badminton Courts with separate seating enclosures for spectators.
Outdoor Sports:- Volleyball 30×20 Metres, Basketball 32X22Metres, Handball 40X25 Metres, Throwball 32X15Mtrs separate at Golden Jubilee Block Sports ground.
- 30 yard Tennis Ball Cricket, 5 a Side Football, Softball, Kho – Kho, Kabaddi, Ball Badminton, Archery will be played on the same area of 40 MetresX40 Metres by sharing the space one after the other.
- NIE Diamond Jubilee Indoor Sports Complex 26X36Mtrs Playing area.
- 4 Badminton Courts, 3 Table Tennis Tables and 3 Carrom Boards.
- Yoga and Chess will be practiced on stage 22X16Mtrs and Green Rooms.7X5 Mtrs.
- Taekwondo, Judo and Wrestling in Cellar 30X15 Mtrs.
- Fitness Center 30’X40’
- Weight Lifting, Power Lifting & Best Physique training is provided.

Usage By Students
- The Indoor as well as Outdoor Sports facilities available at NIE are being used by students and staff of NIE, NIE FGC, NIE ITI and NIE IT Hostel inmates.
- Daily more than 100 students and staff members can be seen using the facilities.
- The students mass participation are in two phases.
- I Phase:
- During ODD Semester the NIE Sports teams are selected and talent hunted after due notifications. In this process nearly 700 students participate for representing NIE in Intercollegiate Sports activities.
- II Phase:
- During Even Semester the NIE Inter branch and NIE Intramural Sports activities are scheduled, more than 800 students participate in these activities.
The NIE Inter Branch Competitions are conducted every year in Volleyball, Basketball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Throw ball, Ball Badminton, Softball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carom and Yoga.
There are about 750 students taking part in the said disciplines. Apart from the above Steel Sports meet involving Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Best Physique for NIE Group of Institutions are held in which “Steel Man” and Mr.NIE Group titles are presented. Annual Athletic Meet for the NIE Group of Institutions is held at NIE IT Campus every year. NIE organizes Inter Collegiate Tournaments (under VTU as well as Mysore City Inter Collegiate Tournaments)
