About NIE NSS Unit

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. The programme aims to inculcate social welfare in students and to provide service to society without bias. NSS volunteers work to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. NSS-NIE unit is part of extension activities in the neighbourhood community in terms of impact and sensitising students and faculty members to social issues and holistic development.

Some of actives that were carried under NSS-NIE units are,

Independence Day

The  75th Independence Day -2021 was celebrated at the National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru on August 15, 2021 Sunday in the administrative block of the Institute. The Tricolor was unfurled by Dr.Ranganath M S, President, NIE-MC and Guest of Honour Mr. K S Chandrashekar Group Captain Rtd. Senior Engineer (Indian Air Force)., Dr. N V Raghavendra Principal, NIE Presided over the function. Deans, HoDs and other administrative heads of the Institute were present on the occasion. Fit India and Green Clean village activities were also carried out as part of Independence Day celebrations.

Blood Donation Campaign 

The NSS-NIE unit conducted Blood Donation Campaign in association with HDFC Bank and JSS Hospital on 05th October, 2018 (Friday) and 11th October, 2019 (Friday). Students of NIE and other colleges in and around Mysuru were part of this live saving event. About 126 units and 75 Units of Blood Donation have been recorded and certified by JSS Hospital during 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Yoga Day

Yoga Day would be conducted by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in association with the NSS unit,

21st June 2019

Mr. H A Nagaraja Rao was the guest for the Yoga Day and he has practiced yoga for the past 20 years. He initially taught us about the importance of practicing and performing Yoga every day. Along with his speech, two of the young Yoga students performed on the stage. Following this, the Yoga guru showed the significance of Pranayama and also deliberated about the types of Pranayama.

21st June 2020

The Webinar was conducted on the Topic of “Common Yoga Protocol” organized by Department of Physical Education and Sports in association with NSS unit, NIE, Mysuru on 21st June, 2021 Monday between 8.00am to 9.00am. About resource person, Mr. Rudresh C.L is the alumni of NIE 2012-16 batch. He bagged 2nd place during India’s best Yogi Competition during 2015. He is a registered yoga instructor from government of India, ministry of ayush and registered level 5 yoga instructors from skill development of India.

Induction Programme

NSS Unit was part of the first years students’ induction programme for the last two years.There were sessions conducted on tree plantation and Swach NIE campus. The tree plantation activity involves preparation of seed balls, demonstration of tree plantation and making the students plant the seed ball in the NIE campus. Swach NIE campus involves imparting knowledge with regard to waste management, e-waste, waste segregation and disposal.
