Our Story
The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), established in the year 1946, today stands in the band of 151 to 200, among top engineering colleges in the country that include IITs and NITs as per National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF-2023). It is ranked 17th among India's top Engineering Colleges, as per survey conducted by The Week.
NIE is a grant-in-aid institution and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. NIE received autonomous status from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi in 2007 and has been accredited by NAAC. Seven out of Eight Undergraduate Programmes and three PG Programmes have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi, under Tier-I.
Faculty has been the main strength of NIE. They impart their vast knowledge to the students by using conventional methods of teaching-learning process as well as contemporary ones. To enrich research and consultancy activities, 15 Centres of Excellence have been set up in collaboration with Industries and Alumni.

Milestones
NIE is started by a 'three-man army' of retired engineers, in a hut ,in the premises of a high school.
UoM (University of Mysore) Affiliation granted to NIE.
AICTE approval received by NIE.
VTU Affiliation granted to NIE.
Grant of Autonomy by VTU to NIE.
Accreditation by NAAC achieved by NIE.
