About The Department

Established in 1946, the Department of Chemistry, under the umbrella of the Basic Sciences Department, plays a pivotal role in imparting foundational knowledge in core science, essential to a wide range of engineering disciplines. The department offers a dynamic and supportive environment for undergraduate education and research, particularly in materials science, chemistry, and related interdisciplinary areas.

The department has secured research grants from various state and central government funding agencies, reflecting its strong research credentials. Research efforts are geared towards real-world applications, focusing on risk mitigation and monitoring infrastructure and human health. Innovations include polymer-based sensors for structural health monitoring, water quality tracking systems, and carbon-capturing devices for diesel engine emissions—all supported by rigorous scientific research.
