Message from the Controller
The Office of the Controller of Examinations at The National Institute of Engineering, Mysuru, is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and transparency in all examination processes.
Our office oversees examination scheduling, conduct of examinations across both campuses, result processing, transcript issuance, revaluation coordination, and the maintenance of all academic records. We ensure that every evaluation is fair, consistent, and aligned with VTU regulations and autonomous institutional standards.
We continuously strive to improve our systems and processes to serve our students, faculty, and stakeholders better. I encourage all students to familiarize themselves with the examination regulations, utilize the resources available through our office, and reach out to us for any assistance.

Types of Examinations
Internal Assessment (CIA)
Continuous Internal Assessment through assignments, quizzes, and mid-term tests conducted by individual departments throughout the semester.

End Semester Examination
University examinations conducted at the end of each semester as per VTU schedule. Theory and practical exams evaluated by internal and external examiners.

Supplementary / Makeup
For students who missed or failed regular examinations. Conducted twice per year to ensure academic continuity and timely degree completion.

Minimum Attendance
Students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance in each subject to be eligible to appear for end-semester examinations.
Malpractice Policy
Strict zero-tolerance policy against malpractice. Penalties range from debarment for 1-4 semesters to cancellation of all examinations, depending on severity. Repeat offenders face permanent expulsion.
Grading System
Choice Based Credit System with 10-point SGPA/CGPA grading as per VTU norms. Letter grades from S (10) to F (0).
Pass Criteria
Minimum 40% marks required in each subject to pass (35% for supplementary examinations as per VTU regulations).
Grace Marks
Up to 5 grace marks may be awarded as per VTU norms to help students clear subjects by a narrow margin.

Certificates & Documents
The COE office issues various certificates and documents. Applications can be submitted at the examination office during working hours.
Degree Certificate
Issued after successful completion of the programme and convocation.
Provisional Certificate
Issued immediately after final results for employment/higher studies purposes.
Consolidated Marks Card
Single document showing marks of all semesters.
Migration Certificate
Required for students transferring to another university.
Transcripts
Official academic transcripts for higher education or employment.
Duplicate Certificates
Re-issue of lost or damaged certificates with applicable fees.

All examination-related queries should be addressed to the COE office during working hours (Mon–Sat, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM). For urgent matters, students may contact their respective department HODs who will coordinate with the examination section.
